Stumbled across these the other day and thought they were really cool looking. They’re called “waterspouts” and, as far as I understand, look kind of like a small tornado but actually aren’t. They’re normally pretty harmless, as long as you’re not right next to one (they can sometimes become vicious, but usually don’t). To my knowledge, waterspouts don’t actually “suck” up water into the clouds, they’re kind of like an extension of the cloud itself down to the water. The funnel that forms is actually just drops of condensation in an organized formation. Very cool.
